User $ fc-match Arial Anti-aliasing, hinting, and sub-pixel rendering The list command shows the available fontconfig files, and marks the enabled ones with an asterisk ( *). The following subsections explain how to deal with the fontconfig eselect module. For obvious reasons changing system wide configuration requires appropriate permissions. Gentoo ships an eselect module ( eselect fontconfig) that does exactly what was described in generic way - it manages symlinks of files in /etc/fonts/conf.avail/ by adding or removing them from the /etc/fonts/conf.d/ directory. These files are executed in order they are named for this reason their names start with a two digit number with the first digit (tens) indicating what the file affects (called the class). ![]() It's customary to symlink necessary files to /etc/fonts/conf.d/. In addition there is the /etc/fonts/conf.avail/ directory that contains various possible configuration files that each cover some aspect of fontconfig. By default it parses /etc/fonts/nf (users should not edit this file!) which sets some sane defaults and usually contains code to also parse /etc/fonts/conf.d/ content. But it's just unbearably slow for me right now.Changes to fontconfig files will reflect only in applications started after the change! Genericįontconfig uses XML files in the /etc/fonts/ directory to generate its internal configuration. If RightFont could fix the performance issues, I'd easily upgrade this to a four-star review. It constantly either says "no fonts to display" or fails to alter the screen when you make changes, leaving you to think nothing has happened or will happen when it has and it will. (Weirdly, it seems like this is specifically limited to the library view when in "all fonts" view it goes faster, which is counterintuitive, but ultimately unhelpful, since the whole point is filtering.)Īlso, the UI is pretty questionable there's no loading state indicating that the app is working in the background, which is bad for an app that does as much work in the background as this one does. It's literally faster for me to navigate through the fonts in Finder than it is to go through my library in this app. In any case, I have a large font library, and literally every action-from scrolling to right clicking-takes several seconds, brings up the rainbow spinner, and sends my modern PC's fans into overdrive. I suspect it may have switched to Electron under the hood and that's what's causing the problem, but that's just a hunch. RightFont *used* to work great a version or two ago.
